Deep Fried Peanuts a Great Little Business
by Jan Smith
I am a semi-retired lady from the south. My husband and I live on a lake which is the perfect setting for working from home. We have lived at this home for twenty-three years. Our children are grown and live outside of the home. We enjoy our 7 month old Peke-a-poo, Smokey, who considers himself the owner of our home and allows us to live with him! A friend of mine approached me and asked if I would be interested in this business as she was retiring. Due to a medical problem which prevented me from working full time, I was motivated to give it a try. After all, what could be more enticing than working from the comfort of your home and setting your own hours, i.e., being your own boss? I began my part-time home based business 10 years ago and have been thoroughly happy with the results. I produce a product that is very popular and enjoy the positive feedback I receive for my work. I handle all aspects of the job responsibilities which include production, invoicing/bookwork and delivery of the product. This enables me to travel outside of the home one day per week and see my clients face-to-face. From a customer service viewpoint, this is very important. When starting a home-based business, it is very important to do your research first. Know the market for your product and have an area of your home that you can devote primarily to this work. This designated area is very important if you are planning a customer service type job where you may need complete quiet, especially if it involves phone work. You will need to be organized and have a set schedule for working. Also, let your family and friends know that you have a schedule set of working hours and ask them to be respect your business during this schedule. Sometimes, just because you're home, they think its okay to contact you to socialize. Consistency is one of the main attributes of a successful business venture and the drive to make it happen. It’s never too late to work from home and even change your destiny at any time in your life. We only have one life so why not spend it doing the things you love and if you’re lucky enough a - business that will help you achieve it. |
