Earning My Bread - Sharing My Story With All The Unemployed Youngsters

(Kochi)

My name is Thomas. I am from Kerala, which is known as Gods on country located in south India. I was working for an Italian company, which is in to EPC in Oil and Gas sector. The economic meltdown affected our company very badly that almost 3000 workers lost their jobs and I was one amongst them.

The sudden loss of jobs was a shock to me and took a long time to recover from it. But this time I decided to start a small business of my own and started a small business unit which produces rubber items like bushes, rubber tubes, washer, etc. I got the idea from a magazine brought out by Small Scale Industrial Development Corporation LTD. (SSIDC).

The motivation or the belief that the project will be a success is because Kerala is a major producer of rubber and the market for rubber products is wide open.

With the help of a friend of mine I made a project plan and its estimate and submitted it to SSIDC. With in three months SSIDC approved my project and granted me a loan of 10,00,000 Indian Rupees.

Then it didn’t take much time to setup a small workshop and install machinery. The hardest part of all was establishing my products in to a well settled market. But it didn’t take much time to settle down in the market. It not only bough prosperity to me and my family, I was able to give employment to more that 10 person in my unit.

Today I supply products to large industries, shipyards, Port Trust and navel base. And I am very happy with what I have achieved.

I would like to share my story with all the unemployed youngsters so that instead or waiting for job opportunities to come to them they can find their own way to success. Today I am a better business person and am become more confident.
