Business Ideas For Kids
Helping Children Become Entrepreneurial
Why Helping Children To Become Entrepreneurial is a Good Thing!
Support and encouragement are the key ingredients to helping kids to become entrepreneurial. The moment that your child begins to express their business side you should immediately begin encouraging them to do these things. You should show them support by sitting down and assisting them in completing a business plan.
When your child considers the type of business they would like to become involved in, whether it be something as simple as starting a lemonade stand or starting a lawn mowing business, you should immediately sit them down and begin asking them business related questions that get them thinking.
The following are some excellent questions to get your child thinking about their business:
- Why do you want to start a business?
- Why do you want to start this type of business?
- Do you have the proper tools and equipment to start this business? If not, how do you plan on acquiring them?
- How are you going to get customers?
- How are you going to make your customers happy?
- How are you going to advertise and how much money do you expect to make?
- How will your business affect other aspects of your life?
- What do you need from me to help you get started?
These questions will not only help you in deciding how to best support your child’s venture, but they will also get your child thinking about things that they may not have even considered. These questions will actually provide the building blocks for critical thinking. The next time your child makes a business decision they are more likely to begin asking themselves types of questions, due to the support that you showed them when creating a business plan.
Creating A Business Proposal And A Test Run
Another thing you can consider when helping kids to become entrepreneurial is having your children present you with a business plan. They can do this verbally or they can put together a presentation to show you what they plan on doing. Once again this will challenge your child to think outside of the box and will also challenge them to answer many questions. Additionally, this is a great way to challenge a child to see if this is something they are really serious about or if it is just a whim.
Secondly, you should consider having them “test run” their business. For example, if they are starting a babysitting business, consider having them baby-sit another family member or friend of the family in order to test their skills and in order to challenge them. Allow them to have a first hand account of what goes into the type of business that they are considering starting.
Above all else, show support and be there to encourage and direct your child in the right direction when it comes to assisting them in becoming entrepreneurial.
