I Asked My Boss If I Could Work From Home?

I worked for a company where I mostly did collections and account management. When I became pregnant with my 3rd child I knew my time was going to be more difficult to share and precious because of the age differences in my children and their needs.
I asked my boss if he would allow me to work from home if I could set up a pseudo-office and had what I needed to get my work done. He agreed right away and after I had my daughter I began working part time from home during the hours my husband was home to watch the kids.
What I did required very little client contact over the phone and I sent emails and letters and faxes out in my own time. Because I had worked for the company for such a length of time, my hours were based on "good faith reporting".
I did this for about a year working mostly in the evenings. I only needed for them to provide me a fax machine, paper and envelopes and some basic things I could get from the main office.
With little overheads I was able to continue to give clients what they needed and to maintain all websites and information with ease in my own time. I was very, very good at my job and wanted to be able to continue to perform well for them so we found a way to make it work for everyone.
Eventually, the family owned business was sold and I decided not to move on with the new company but I did this job successfully from home for about 2 years.
This turned out to be a very positive experience and when I’m ready; I know that I could work from home again.Especially knowing I am very good at time management and had the support at home as well. This is vital especially if you have children and need to work from home.
Sometimes is easier for your employer to let you work from home, rather than employing someone else to do your job.If you find yourself in this or a similar situation, please ask as like me you may be very surprised of the outcome.
