Hi, i have found your site very helpful, but i wanted to ask what would be a reasonable rent if and when i find a suitable pitch for a catering trailer. Also how do i go about finding out who owns the land and putting in an application for a pitch.

I would like to trade legally so that i don't have any problems, is this unheard of? Is there anyone out there who has been granted a license from the council or land owners to trade legally?

Rent is Normally Dependant On Your Landlord

Hi Susie,

Rent is normally dependent on your landlord and what they have agreed with you, this can vary from between £50-£300 a week.The big B&Q stores charge around £200 upwards.

This sounds quite expensive, so try and find a council owned industrial estate or buy a pitch on an industrial estate where the rent will be much, much cheaper.

As for finding a private landlord this could be a privately owned industrial estate, pub or a small patch of unused land, but you will have to the the detective work to find out who owns it.For instance I know some one who use to park in the golf car park and provide tea and hot food for the golf players, so it's up to you to find out and be creative.

It will be worth it in the long run as you will be trading legally and for the long-term, allowing you to build up your customer base.
