I’ve Decided To Ditch The Corporate Life
by Paul
It is definitely a life-changing decision for me – I’ve decided to ditch the corporate life. Those who have known me for years are all aware that I want to run my own business one day. That should be no surprise. But what would surprise is that it happened so soon.
First, my expectations on the corporate world. I was really very excited to be part of the corporate at first. Call me naive, I actually thought corporate life would be fast-paced and exciting like in The Apprentice. I was looking forward to a fast-paced environment of leading important projects, setting strategic directions for projects, managing a team of people to get required tasks done, and feeling really satisfied upon its successful completion.
Second, I want to expedite my learning curve. In case people think I’m too young to run my own business, well let’s put it this way, how much more do I learn anyway staying in corporate? Probably I’ll need to wait at least another 5-10 years to get the kind of responsibilities that challenge and excite me.
I don’t want that kind of limitations; I want to start experiencing the real challenge right away. How much more do I learn anyway staying in comfort zone, sitting in an office just waiting for others to give me responsibilities, subject to people’s opinions and influence most of the time. I don’t need that sort of limitations.
Seeking to blaze my own trail, I want to have the freedom to choose how much I want to learn, what kind of huge responsibilities to take on, and my role in any given initiative.
Third, of course for the satisfaction. It’s proven that people fly high when they’re doing what they’re passionate about. I’ve been passionate about running my own business since ages ago. It’s no stranger that I would ditch the conventional route to pursue my dream. I like to be the leader of my own show, and I feel great satisfaction upon achieving my goals. I know what I want and I’m not afraid to pursue it.
