Resigning My Job -Spending Time With My Children and Working at Home
by Manik
Hi, I am Manik I was a University topper in my Bachelors’ and Masters’ degree exams and obtained a Ph.D. in Physics in 1981.
Before my marriage I worked as a lecturer in Physics but after my eldest daughter was born, I found it extremely difficult to go to the University.
Resigning the job was the only option left for me. For many years I just stayed at home and looked after the kids. As they say, every cloud has a silver lining. My husband made me join a Diploma course in Computer programming which I did complete sincerely. Soon afterwards, I purchased a Computer and a printer and started doing simple jobs like pay slips printing.
I did part-time teaching at a computer training Institute. Many of my students started approaching me for private coaching in programming languages like JAVA, C, C++, Visual Basic and packages like Oracle etc. Since then, there was no looking back.
Today, I don't even have to advertise. My coaching classes give me a good income, but more importantly, the satisfaction that I am making good use of my time by imparting education to youngsters.
I also get enough time for myself now that the kids have grown up, which would not have been possible had I taken up a full time job. I feel happy when my students do well in their exams.
My husband has been a constant source of inspiration in my venture. In fact he motivated me for starting this business. The only investment we had to make was for purchasing the computer (now we have three), a printer, a few chairs and a blackboard, which I recovered very soon.
Now I also supplement my income by doing some internet based jobs. The only skill that is required to do this is a good grasp of programming languages and a genuine love for teaching. I wish other stay-at-home moms a successful business opportunity.
