If you have served as a handyman in the past or have carried out a job which is considered ‘handyman’ related, you should consider having people write you letters of recommendation which you can add to your marketing materials. Potential clients love to have this type of information available to them. If a potential client sees that you have a proven reputation and proven experience, they are more likely to choose you for their handyman needs.

Target Local Businesses In Your Area

Once you have targeted neighborhoods of interest you can then begin to contact businesses in your area. However, many businesses that are ‘chains’ generally do not employee the services of a handyman. Therefore, you want to focus mainly on personally owned businesses in your area. If a business is family owned and operated they are free to make these types of decisions on their own and are more apt to hire a sole handyman for their repair and service needs.

Keep in mind that if you fail to advertise you will fail to produce clients, which ultimately means that you will fail to make money.

All you need to do is get your name out there! The more that you market yourself and your skills, the more successful you will be if you start a handyman business. You must have a ‘can do’ attitude and must be willing to market yourself. If you are not a personable and flexible individual who can ‘sell themselves’ then you probably have no place in the handyman business.  However, if you are a ‘self starter’ who has a proven skill set and are a hard worker, then you truly can make a full-time living if you start a handyman business.
