Start a Wedding Planner Business

Bring Happy Couples Together When You Start a Wedding Planner Business

You will often find that the most important day in many people's lives is the day that they got married.

They have been dreaming of this day for years and they probably have an idea in mind of exactly what they want. When you start a wedding planner business, you can help your clients realize their dreams by giving them the ability to plan the perfect wedding. Without your assistance, they may not be able to handle all of the details.

A wedding planner is often a trusted assistant who can listen to a couple's desires for their wedding and do everything in their power to make it happen. Whether you are arranging for a caterer, booking a reception hall, helping to choose the flowers, dress, or programs, or simply smoothing things over and doing everything in your power to make things go smoothly, you can be an integral part of the success of the wedding ceremony. Many couples in today's world are very busy and never have the time to handle all of the details of the wedding themselves. This is where they will turn to you.

What Does a Wedding Planner Normally Do?

When you start a wedding planner business, you need to be prepared to work closely with a couple to craft the wedding of their dreams. This can mean that you will be making a lot of phone calls, talking to a lot of different specialists, and making regular reports to the couple getting married. You need to have a good eye and a good sense for details when you are a wedding planner, for you will need to make many different details all come together at once.

You will have to figure out what the wedding budget is for the couple in question and then find a way to work within that budget for all of your needs. It is expected that you will be able to advise the couple on many details of planning their wedding, from choosing a date for the wedding, a location for the wedding, and the official who is going to preside over the service.

It is customary for you to be the person in charge of all of the paperwork as well. You will need to obtain the marriage license for the couple getting married and you will need to sign all of the invoices for the pieces being ordered. It will be up to you to make sure that you reserve all of the locations, assistants, and products that you are going to need for the wedding itself and for the reception afterwards.

How Do You Make a Living as a Wedding Planner?

When you begin a wedding planner business, you will be helping people to realize their dreams but you still need to make a profit. Pricing your services will be an important task of successfully bringing in clients. Whether you take a commission fee based on the budget being put into the wedding or you charge a daily rate for everything you do, you should make sure that your rates are not unreasonable for a new married couple to be spending.

You may also want to look into the possibility of different types of services that you could offer.  If you start a wedding planner business, you could potentially offer single consultations to couples who are looking for advice. This can be a one-time visit, where you can guide a couple in picking colors, flowers, a caterer, and other important details. The responsibility of getting all of these pieces could be left up to the couple after their consultation, which still helps you plan weddings without forcing you to be there every step of the way!
