Started a Catering Business, But told to move on Help!!

I recently set up a burger van business after being made redundant. I did not want to be a jobcentre statistic so took the plunge.

It started well I parked on the road above no frills for 3 months and customers returned and it was ticking over nicely.

Then one day this man drove past me onto the carpark in no frills. The next day I was asked to move by highways and he told me the man had permission to park in no frills.

I have contacted no frills and this was a lie so I have applied for the pitch as I was sort of there first. I am concerned if I get it I don't want any trouble but feel this man did not care about doing the dirty on me

I only want to make a living but need advice on how I can get a pitch. I have asked the council about a few places but the answer is always no. Do you have any advice on how I go about it in case I don't get the pitch at no frills

Illegal layby pitching

I too have sent off for a list, thank yo for that link,my husband was made redundant and we jumped in feet first and bought a catering wagon. We have had it since feb 09 but cant find a pitch all have been no no's out of desperation my husband is now selling burgers on a layby without consent of the council for the last week. We have all the necessary doc but are worried what would happen to him if he gets caught/ thanks

B&Q Pitches Can Vary

Hi Evonne,

Rents for B&Q and Homebase can vary.I know some people who were paying £300 per week and some £125 a week.

It will al depend on how busy the pitch is and this may be determined by foot fall of the store.They will also add on vat so it may be slightly more.

New Business Pitch on Retail Site

Thank you for getting back to me and for the information on retail concessions which I had not heard of.

I have been in touch with them and they have reserved me a pitch on a retail park not too far from my home. I am hoping everything will go through OK .

Well Done For Starting Your Own Business

Hi Wayne,

Well the done for taking the plunge - how typical that someone is giving you hassle.If i were you find out from your customers if they have indeed seen this other guy before or at least try to check his story out.

He may or may not be lying about his situation, but if it was his pitch he would be on there trading, wouldn't he??

You can always check with the council who will tell you if his catering business is registered by them.

Anyway, like me you don't want any trouble so if it becomes too problematic find your self another pitch.Try retails concessions who may have a pitch but you will have to pay them weekly rent to trade.

Anyway Wayne, don't be deterred just find another way to resolve this situation and then continue.It will be worth it in the end.
