Starting a Wellness Coaching Practice?
by Margarita
How did I start my own small business in wellness coaching? I launched My Wellness Coaching in July 2007. Besides the schooling, credentials, experience and general office stuff, I did not invest a lot money to get my business going It is by no means my first attempt to have my own business (I think I suffer from something). I just wanted to combine both my passion for health and my love for supporting individuals achieve their goals. What are my best 7 tips for other small business owners? 1. It is OK to reinvent yourself. Life is too short for not trying new ideas and dreams 2. Watch your expenses. It takes money to make money but be wise and don't spend unwisely.. 3. Keep the business finances up to date by using bookkeeping software or a bookkeeper. 4. Be flexible and in a learning mode as your business model may have to change a few times. 5. Working from home can be a challenge. Be honest with your needs and find ways to support yourself: a. If you are a team player who enjoys being around people, participate in networking or volunteer groups. b. If you are a hermit, find a few people you enjoy and make sure you get out of the house. 6. If your business does not work, it is all right. You probably learned a few good things for your next project or new venture. 7. Use local resources and programs in your area. The Small Business Administration here in the USA is phenomenal. I got a lot of guidance for my previous import business. I received support from the local small business administration and retired business people. They have unbelievable systems and are eager to assist you. Overall, the first year of My Wellness Coaching has been a total learning curve. It has been a challenge finding the right approach to make money in todays economy. My biggest challenge is wearing all the hats and getting new clients. Keeping my energy going with the ups and down can be difficult at times. I am definitely using the tools in my stress management information pages and taking vitamins for stress to support myself (have to practice what I preach). The future looks encouraging. I have made a lot of connections through networking events and workshops that are working in the right direction. Company coaching programs are my next step. There are all types and sizes of entrepreneurs and business owners. I know from experience that it all starts with an idea and then it takes planning, perseverance, support and specific goals to be successful. Visit My Wellness Coaching
