5 Tips To Help Children Start a Business
5 Tips To Help Children Start A Business When most children discover that work leads to money, and they discover the value of money, these children quickly become interested in finding ways to acquire the money they desire. Most children will first learn the value of money when they are given a weekly allowance based on the completion of specific chores dictated by their guardians. However, at some point and time most children begin to look into other methods of acquiring money. When this happens parents should consider the following five steps. These five steps will assist you in helping your child start a business. Tip #1: Be Supportive! One of the most important things you can do when your child begins to express interest in starting a business is to be supportive. Often times parents will discourage their children from starting a business or will make sarcastic remarks that will turn their child off to starting their own business, or that will simply lead to discouragement. You want to remain supportive yet realistic. You should consider sitting down and speaking to your child about their business idea and assist them in formulating a proper business plan. You should be there to supply them with advice and to help them shape their idea into an actual business that they can effectively maneuver. Tip #2: Be There To AssistLet your child know that you are there to assist them and that you will be there to answer any questions that they have. However, refrain from stepping in and “taking over” your child’s business. Too many parents allow their children to pawn their work off on them. You need to let your child know that you are there in case of emergencies and that you can assist them with ideas and trouble-shooting. However, you should also let them know that you will not be doing their work for them. Tip #3: Continual EncouragementThroughout your child’s business venture you should always show continual encouragement. Applaud them for a job well done and be sure to continually provide them with words of encouragement in order to let them see that you respect their business venture. The more encouragement that you show to your children and their business ideas, the more successful that they will be. Since your child is new to the business world you may have to step in at times and assume a management role. You may wish to sit down them every couple of weeks and have them re-evaluate their current business venture to see what can be improved, what works, and what doesn’t work. These types of meetings can assist your child in turning their business into a very lucrative business. This will also show your child that you are truly supportive and wish to see them succeed. Tip #5: The Fun Factor!Above all else, make sure that your child is having fun doing what they are doing. If their business venture is doing nothing but causing them stress and grief, then you should consider encouraging them to try another type of business. Children who work and adults who work are very different. Not everyone is going to enjoy their job, however, children should enjoy what they are doing when it comes to business, or they may learn bad work ethic and may get a negative opinion of work in general. Therefore, go out of your way to ensure that your child is having fun in the business venture that they have chosen to embark on. If your child is having fun and you have followed the previous four tips, you will quickly discover that your child will have fun while working and that they will learn important life lessons and gain a strong work ethic and self-esteem.
